The Kaohsiung Museum of History is one of the landmarks of the Love River humanism.It was originally used as a government administration building, and has once shouldered the role of the city navigator, carrying the history and living images of the Kaohsiung residents.It is the ultimate witness to the development and cultural evolution of the City.

After the Government has moved out in 1992, the building was converted into the City’s Museum of History on 25th October 1998, making it the first museum to be set up by a local government.The building itself was also marked as a historical site by the Kaohsiung City Government in 2004, making it the perfect case study of converting a historical site into a cultural building.The transformation of its role signifies the evolution and growth of the City.

The construction of the Museum's main building commenced in 1938 during Japanese Occupation, and was completed the following year.In order to avoid being bombarded during the war, the exterior is light cyan in color and the roof tiles were designed in the so-called National Defense series.The building revolve around the design of a central tower collocated with two symmetrical turrets on each side.The central axis aimed at creating a solemn and ceremonious atmosphere, with the top of the building crowned with Japanese traditional tetragonal pyramidal roofing and glazed tiles.A porch was set up at the ground floor, toped with an outdoor terrace that functioned as a commanding platform for military reviews and ceremonies.

The Kaohsiung Museum of History is the first ever to be run by the local government.In order to preserve and exalt the history of Kaohsiung, and to enrich the living quality of its residents, specialized departments were set up for its exhibition, promotion, and preservation.The Museum aims to hold exhibitions related to the history and culture of Kaohsiung and Taiwan, promote education of the people, and relic preservation.As such, it is hoping play an important role in providing fieldtrips to local schools, while also becoming the most desirable tourist spot that combines intellect and sensuality.Being shaped into an integral part of the City's tourism industry, it has the potential to make frequenting the museum the most high class, yet the cheapest everyday recreational activity.
