Gigapixel view from the summit of Mount Abbot (elev. 13,704') in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Toms Place, California. The peak is accessible from the Mosquito Flat Trailhead w/ the most common route being up the steep couloir on the north face. From here one has nearby views of Mt. Mills, Mt. Morgan, Little Lakes Valley, Mount Dade, Bear Creek Spire, & Mt. Gabb. To the distant north is Red Slate Mountain, Red & White Mountain, plus far views of Mt. Dana, Mt. Ritter, & the Minarets. To the northeast are the White Mountains including White Mountain Peak. To the east is Mt. Tom & further south are Humphreys Peak to the Palisade Crest. Even a distant Mt. Whitney is visible. This summit has a broad sloped granite plateau however the common descent requires negotiating a catwalk following a steep drop into the couloir (which was lacking snow & had a lot of dusty decomposed granite).
