A 100' aerial view overlooking Belmont, Nevada, on the national register of historic places. The town was founded in 1865 following a silver strike, once becoming the county seat of Nye County. The population peaked in the 1870s around 2,000 but faded as the mines & metal values fluctuated. Today there is a small population living here as there are remains of former buildings. The landmark of the town is the restored red Belmont Courthouse, which unfortunately was closed during this visit.
