This downtown Tripoli photo was taken in 2009 immediately prior to the celebrations for Maummar Gaddafi's 40th anniversary as the "Brotherly leader" of Libya. It can be noted that the street has been cleaned and decorative arches have been added above the street. During the celebrations around 40 tanks passed through the centre of Tripoli, making considerable noise and smoke.
