Lamoille Canyon is one of several glacially carved canyons in the Ruby Mountains, situated in the basin and range region of the western United States.  Reaching altitudes above 11,000 feet, the range captures significant precipitation creating a cool green oasis above the surrounding desert.

Hiking to Lamoille Lake on a cool afternoon in July, we stopped at this meadow for a break to enjoy the shade and views of the surrounding mountains.
