Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Athos in Abkhazia. Founded in 1875 by the monks of the monastery of Saint Panteleimon Russian from Old Mount Athos (Greece) (Patriarchate of Constantinople) with the participation of the Russian Emperor Alexander III. Closed in 1924, returned to believers in 1994. 11 February 2011 the Government of Abkhazia has transferred the monastery of the Abkhaz Orthodox Church. On 15 May 2011 the monastery is actually the chair of the non-canonical "Holy Metropolis
