Bagnoregio, the "city that dies" is a typical medieval city near Viterbo, north of Rome. Probably built around VII century on top of a sand hill, it is, due to erosion, a doomed city; several earthquakes in the past centuries have caused large portions of it to crumble downhill, including the only access road, by which a monastery stood until XIX century.
Although the road has since been replaced by a pawn bridge, Civita di Bagnoregio, still doomed, is today a ghost city; this, together with the unique panorama of the surrounding environment, with the typical "calanchi" mounds, makes it an ideal set for the italian movie makers.
