Hidjaz Station was built at the end of 19th beginning 20th century and was part of the ambitious Baghdad Rail Line which should connect Europe via Istanbul (Constantinopel) Syria/ Jordan and Mecca. Due to the start of WW1 the line only reached as far as Jordan. This station is since a couple of years out of operation. Trains from Damascus now starts at Kadam Station a few km south of the center of Damascus.
