Te Matau a Pohe- Whangarei's new Bridge.
The name is derived from Wiremu Pohe, a local chief in the late 1830's, who welcomed the first European settlers to Whangarei.
Once the procession had passed across the bridge there was a quiet time, just a few pedestrians making thier way up and over, stopping under the "hooks" of the Bascule to admire the design.

Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards. Whangarei is the regional city on the way up to Cape Reinga at the northernmost tip of the island.
