The Bremen Market Square
Bremen Market Square

In the large Market Square Bremen (3484 square meters), just opposite the town hall, it is remarkable Bremer Roland (literally: "the Roland of Bremen"), a giant statue of the paladin Roland / Orlando dating back to 1404. It symbolizes freedom and Justice, as well as the independence of the Land of Bremen. The monument, the oldest and largest of its kind in Germany (collectively, the monument measures 10.21 meters in height, while the statue is only 5.74 meters high), is counted, along with the town hall, in the list of compiled by the UNESCO World Heritage (since 2004). On the square facing important and valuable public and historic buildings such as the Cathedral, the Parliament, the Chamber of Commerce and the City Hall.
