The chapter house at Inchmahome Priory, Lake of Menteith
Scotland

Inchmahome Priory is a ruined monastic sanctuary located on an island in Scotland’s only lake. Established in around 1238, the isolated setting allowed a community of Augustinian canons to function in peace, with the occasional royal visitor, for over 300 years. It fell into decline following the Protestant Reformation in 1560.

The best preserved part of the remains is the Chapter House. It was converted into a mausoleum for the earls of Menteith in the 1750s. It houses examples of some of the decorative stonework found around the priory, along with some medieval effigies relocated from the priory church.
