Vardzia cave monastery in Georgia, drone panorama
Georgia

Vardzia is a cave monastery complex in southern Georgia, built in the 12th century. It includes a church, refectory, library, and wine cellar. The complex was abandoned in the 16th century and rediscovered in the 19th century. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Vardzia is made up of over 6,000 rooms and chambers. The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. The refectory has a large fresco depicting the Last Supper. The library contains over 10,000 manuscripts. The wine cellar can hold up to 100,000 liters of wine.

Vardzia is a unique and impressive example of Georgian cave architecture.
