Zmeika (Snake) mountain quarry view #4
Russia
The eastern and, in part, southern and northern slopes [source not specified 312 days] of the mountain are disturbed by an extensive quarry in which beshtownite was mined for construction purposes in the 30–80s of the 20th century [2]. The quarry is an extensive artificial outcrop of about 3 km long and up to 500 m high. It shows the features of the occurrence and internal structure of the subvolcanic intrusion of beshtownites, their relationships with the host sedimentary rocks, as well as the remains of the cover of Neogene volcanic tuffs, which determines the scientific value of this development. After the cessation of stone mining in the quarry, a natural restoration of the vegetation cover occurs.
