Alcatraz Visiting Area
The Bay Area

The current buildings on Alcatraz were originally built as a military prison and converted to Federal prison in 1933. It remained as a prison until it's closure in 1963. It is now part of the the National Parks and open to the public.

This shows the visiting area at the end of Broadway, taken on the evening tour of Alcatraz.
