I spent one evening examining the headstones of Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka, California. The oldest part of the cemetery is evident w/ the tall marble obelisks, some of the oldest citizens were born in the late 1700s. Here one can see a small headstone that says Child Unknown w/ an estimated death from 1909-1912. Two stones to the left another headstone reads:
John Saxton
Met death in Mt. Vernon Mine
August 31, 1911
Age 37 yrs.

Though there is little information on the deceased, he appeared to have been born in Germany in 1874 & was single at the time w/ his parents unknown. As a miner, he died in an accident after being crushed by a falling boulder.
