Hidden behind Nanshi Lake in Cising Village, the Former Residence of the Lyu Family, with over 100 years of history, is Kaohsiung’s largest and most structurally complete existing traditional residence, and one of the finest architecture examples of the earth-slab houses during the Han migration and cultivation period. The Lyu Family Residence is a double-winged courtyard compound. The main materials are earth slabs and bricks. The structure follows the order of high to low traditional hierarchy. The house lacks ornate carvings or colorful paintings. However, it is the embodiment of the experience of the early migrant families who settled here in this challenging mountain terrain.
