Botanic garden

Welcome to the botanical garden of the University of Szeged. The garden was founded in 1922 by professor István Györffy on a place what he got from Szeged city. This garden has got 3 parts of the garden: Park, Arboretum, Associations. We show you about 5.000 kinds of plants. The lions of the place for example the Metasequoia glyptostroboides which is a rareness in Europe, the biggest Nelumbo nucifera collection in the Middle Europe and the Rosegarden. There are tropical and mediterranean utility- and gala plants in greenhouses. There are about 800 exotic races (cocoa tree, Pandanus tectorius, Opuntia vulgaris…)

The Arboretum shows trees from different families. We can see there the collection of pinewood and cypress trees.
In the third part of the garden (Associations) there are mainly trees and bushes from Hungary. There are the collections of the exotic cultivated plants and taxonomic. Int he barn-yard we can meet the flowers and vegetables of the provincial gardens.
The botanical garden is the promotional of the teaching, searching, documentary and exhibitor of the varigeation of the plants.
We are open in every seasons and glad if you visit our garden.
