The tradition of olive growing dates back to the old days when the old Romans recognized Istria’s fertile soil for the cultivation of the most famous Mediterranean elixir. We can find evidence about this in the archaeological findings located along the coast, that show how in that period Istria already had production capacities that were unique in their size on the wider area.

Istrien (kroatisch/slowenisch Istra, italienisch Istria, lat. Histria) ist die größte Halbinsel an der nördlichen Adria zwischen dem Golf von Triest und der Kvarner-Bucht vor Rijeka. Die Fläche der gesamten Halbinsel beträgt 3.476 km².Die Bezeichnung Istrien geht auf den Namen der Histri, eines Stammes der Illyrer, zurück, die in dieser Region in der Antike lebten.Der weitaus größte Teil Istriens gehört zu Kroatien, ein Teil des Nordens zu Slowenien und ein kleiner Landstrich um die Ortschaft Muggia zu Italien.
