九鲤湖祈梦之风缘起九仙的神话故事，历经百代，盛传不衰。何氏九仙早在唐朝就传得沸沸扬扬，故天宝元年（742年）清源县“因考故事，谓县有九仙人姓何，以兄弟九人登仙而得名，而将清源改为仙游。”
明朝弘治年间江南第一才子唐伯虎慕名来到九鲤湖祈梦，幸蒙九仙指引，唐伯虎励志笃学，终于成为名震天下的“吴门画派”先驱。如今屹立在唐伯虎故里的梦墨亭就是一个佐证。
