Like other free trade port zones, the Sixth Cargo Center at Kaohsiung Free Trade Port Zone allows foreign goods to be stored, manufactured, distributed and transported without a customs clearance. This coastal cargo center has a length of 1,500 meters, and now has two of its four ports functioning. The other two are still under construction. The Taiwan International Ports Corporation is behind the construction scheme, which is funded by local private investments. The depth of the water at the ports is 16.5 meters, enough to accommodate large cargo ships and helping to enhance the overall competitiveness of Kaohsiung ports.
