Cianjhen is the major fisheries business area in southern Taiwan.Its century-old fisheries business has created the success of the seafood industry development in Taiwan today with a rewarding cultural value behind its economic development.The Kaohsiung Museum of Fisheries Civilization in Cianjhen is divided into two sections – the “Squid Fishery Cultural Museum” and “Tuna Fishery Cultural Museum”, with introductions on ecology, technology, and the evolution of the industry development of the two fish species. Kaohsiung is also a major supplier of the deep-sea tuna products.The fisheries industry in Kaohsiung has been developed for more than 80 years, with deep-sea tuna fishing grounds all over the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean.The major types of fisheries include the albacore, big-eye tuna, yellow-fin tuna, sailfish and bonito.
