In 1927, Taiwan held its own fine arts show called "the Taiwan Exhibition", with painters like Kinichiro Ishikawa, Toho Shiozuki, Koto Gohara, and Seigai Kinoshita then residing in Tansui sitting as the judges. There was a healed dispute during the first Taiwan Exhibition, which also decided the future direction of modern painting in Taiwan.
