The cliff of Mirns is located in the municipality of Gaasterlân-Sleat, in the province Friesland. The cliff was created during the next-to-last ice age when large amounts of boulder-clay was carried from scandinavia by a 250m thick icecap. When the ice melted this soildrift deposited a layer of boulders and oily-clay in large mounts ("gaasten" in Friesian) across Friesland.
Today the cliff of Mirns is adjacent to lake IJssel ("het IJsselmeer" in Dutch) and has a lovely sandy beach with excellent wind and kite-surfing conditions.
