Lamego, Archaeological site
Portugal

This nucleus is the most important archaeological site discovered in Lamego that illustrates the dynamics of the city's transformation over more than two thousand years of its history. Arranged in overlapping "layers", the vestiges provide a "time travel", from the earliest residential occupation of that space, in the Roman (1st to 5th centuries) and Suevo-Visigoth (5th-7th centuries) periods, when the city was promoted to the episcopal seat, undergoing its transformation into a cemetery (9th-11th centuries), abandoned to make way for the new walled city belt (12th-13th centuries) and the houses that are at the origin of the current urbanism of the Neighborhood Castle. The visitor has a route that allows the reading of the archaeological structures accompanied by a video projection and the display of objects found on the site, highlighting an important Roman monetary treasure, from the end of the century. IV, as well as ceramic pieces, glass and other objects illustrating the daily lives of those who inhabited that space over time. An interactive screen allows you to explore information about the cemetery and the bioanthropological data of the individuals buried there.
