Gowkthrapple lies one mile (1.5 km) south of Wishaw in North Lanarkshire.
An industrial area, mainly associated with the Pather Iron and Steel Works.
Now mainly a residential area, small in size but large in population, it was previously dominated by immense public-housing blocks generally associated with social problems.
In recent years the tower blocks have been demolished and other properties in the area have been refurbished, along with an increase in modern new-build homes.
