Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone Sanya Hainan——the tall Strelitziaceae in Nanshan Temple
Hainan Province

Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone is 40 km southwest of Sanya. It includes three main parks: Nanshan Buddhism Culture Park - showing you China traditional Buddhism culture; China Blessing and Longevity Culture Park - concentrating on the soul of China culture; South China Sea Folk Culture Park - exhibiting the view of South China Sea and the custom of Li, Miao minority group.

 Nanshan Buddhism Culture Park is to display China traditional Buddhism culture and help people learn more about Buddhist philosophy. Its major highlights are Nanshan Temple, South China Sea Kwan-yin Bodhisattva, China Buddha culture center, etc.

China Blessing and Longevity Culture Park is to express the soul of Chinese culture and embodies the ambience of peace and happiness.

In South China Sea Folk Culture Park, visitors can enjoy the fantastic view of South China Sea, at the same time, they experience the traditional cultures of Li and Miao ethnic groups.

 Nanshan is recognized as an important site in the history of Buddhism. Monk Jianzhen of Tang Dynasty (618 -907 AD) intended to go Japan to promote Buddhism for five times but all fails due to different reasons. Then he tried again, but this time he was drifted to Nanshan by the sea storm. So he stayed here, and built temples and wide-spread Buddhism. One and a half year later, he left for Japan and finally got there, accomplished his mission.

Strelitziaceae:

 family of flowering plants in the ginger order (Zingiberales) that range in size from perennial herbs to trees. The family includes three genera (Ravenala, Phenakospermum, and Strelitzia) and seven species.

 R. madagascariensis, the traveler’s tree, native to Madagascar, has a palmlike trunk and leaves with the appearance of a fan. The water that is stored in the leaf bases may enable it to withstand dry conditions. The only species of Phenakospermum, a tree similar to Ravenala, grows in South American swamps. Some species of the southern African genus Strelitzia look like palm trees. Others are herbs bearing exotic ... (100 of 160 words)
