The aristocratic XVII century Palazzo Gastaldi-Lavagna rises severely in the middle of the old town, tall and gray, dominating the houses all around, noble too, but simpler and smaller. In the past, all its interiors were frescoed.
The narrow street were they rise was called "Carùggiu d'ì södi" ('money lane', in Ligurian dialect), due to the richness of the people living there.
