Portalegre, Walled historical nucleus, aerial view
Portugal

The original village is located within a wall. Medieval period: castle and urban fence; modern times: reinforcement of the medieval fence, remains of the São Cristóvão Fort and adaptation of the Atalaião; this one, of probable medieval foundation, presents the steep walls indicating an adaptation to a 17th century stronghold, dating from the War of Restoration. The urban fence has largely survived the city's transformations, presenting two doors, in situ, with some monumentality (Porta de Alegrete and Porta da Devesa). The castle, formed by three towers, designs a courtyard with an unusual configuration, as unusual is the fact that the Torre de Menagem is, at the same time, a tower of the urban fence, probably deriving from the irregularity of its plan.

Portuguese architects, mayors, teachers: Think about the opportunity to study, understand and value Portuguese towns and cities, from the historical point of view, and their evolution to the present day. These 360º aerial images allow a different perception of satellite images. We must value what we have. Unlike central Europe, we did not suffer the destruction of the Second World War, what we have is natural and genuine, it is not the result of post-war reconstruction. (Almost all the historic centers of European cities were rebuilt in the 1950s after the World War II, being reconstructions, not genuine)
