Impressed by Kaohsiung’s hospitality and the fabulous harbor view, Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman let Kaohsiung become the first leg of the Taiwan tour for his imaginative work among the cities in Taiwan. Height of 18 meters and weigh up to 1,000 kg’s giant inflatable duck floats on the waters of Kaohsiung Harbor in southern Taiwan. 

The body of rubber duck and floating platform were all made by local manufactures, being the outstanding model of “MIT”(Made in Taiwan) products. The yellow rubber duck made a big splash in Kaohsiung, attracting 3.9 million visitors in a month. The yellow rubber duck not only creates huge tourism business opportunities and also leads up the discussing fever of “Character Economy ”. 

After The Rubber Duck Exhibition, Kaohsiung City Government starts getting into the swing of the most important construction plan in the recent years-Asia New Bay Area, comprising of four main venues: Kaohsiung Maritime Culture and Popular Music Center, Kaohsiung Public Library, Kaohsiung Port Terminal and Kaohsiung Exhibition and Convention Center in Glory Pier and nearby area. With the network of Light Rail Transit, Kaohsiung New Bay Area will bring Kaohsiung a booming future of being an international city in the world.
