Sculpture - Francesco d'Assisi - Monterosso al Mare
Ligurien, Italien

Francesco d'Assisi (francis) lived the first part of his adult life as a normal young man. His father was a rich business  man. But F. didn't want to follow him. He was a soldier for some time. Somewhere on the line he found his God. He wanted to rebuild/restore some small chapels. So he sold out his fathers stock and gave the money to the priest. As a christian F. lived as a beggar in poor clothing. That was the only way to be free and devote oneself to the christian life and bring the word to the comon people. Some thought he was mad some genial. Still today you find the Franciscan monk as a part of the Roman Catholic church.
