The Sinkai Memorial Park was founded in July 2012 in honor of those who lost their lives during the onslaught of Typhoon Morakot in 2009. The park covers an area of about one hectare, and is located on the site of former Sinkai Elementary School. It is a memorial park incorporating functions of commemoration, ecology, and disaster prevention. Within the park, there is a memorial plaza and education corridor that seeks to transmit local cultural features and ecological conservation concepts, and serves as a reminder of the lessons from Typhoon Morakot.
