St Kilda's church, Lochbuie, Mull
Scotland

This tiny Episcopal Church is located close to the shoreline at the head of Lochbuie. It was built and paid for by MacLaine of Lochbuie for the people of south Mull in 1876. Due to its small size it has no resident minister.

Local rumour has it that it was to have been consecrated to St. Oran but this was changed to St. Kilda. The origin of St. Kilda is uncertain. Some regard him as a mythical person although there is some evidence that he was a Nordic saint, probably a hermit, the spelling of whose name should be St. Kildar. The church’s stained glass windows show portrayals of St. Oran and St. Kilda, along with other Saints, including St. Columba.
