Tarr Steps. Built By The Devil
England

The Tarr Steps, over the river Barle, is the largest example of a clapper bridge. It is 55 meters long over 17 spans. It is made up of large unmortered slabs of stone resting on one another. It is believed that the name clapper bridge comes from the Medival Latin word "claperius" or pile of stones. Local legend says that the bridge was built by the devil and still to this day he has sunbathing right on it's stones.
