With the Waka once more in front, the flotilla approached then came under the bridge, the Bascule having been raised to allow the larger craft through.
Seeing the masts pass withing the centre section it was obvious to all that without the Bascule, the Town Basin would soon have been unavailable to many travellers.

Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards. Whangarei is the regional city on the way up to Cape Reinga at the northernmost tip of the island.
