Allthough only in life size "The Little Mermaid" is the most famous sculpture of Copenhagen. It was made by Edvard Erichsen on request by the brewer Carl Jacobsen (Carlsberg). He was very infatueted by the balletdanser Ellen Price, who played the part as the little mermaid in the ballet of the same name. Ellen Price didn't want to show herself naked, though, so the artist used his wife as model. The statue have had it's place at the harbour of Copenhagen since 1912. Like in the fairy tl by H.C. Andersen she sits on her rock and dreaming about the lost childhood in the ocean.
