Lianchihtan is situated east of Zuoying old villages and west of the Western railway, bordering on the south by Gueishan, and on the north by Banpingshan.  The pond has an area of approximately 42 hectare.  In 1686, Yang, Fang-Sheng, the magistrate of the Fongshan County, built the Wen Temple (old Confucius Temple), and he accompanied the temple with a pond, decorating the pond with lotus flowers.  Every summer the lotus would blossom, filling the air with its fragrance, thus giving it the name of Lianchihtan (Lotus Pond).  The lotus by the pond has since become one of the eight wonders of Fongshan.  In 1842, Cao, Jin, the Fongshan County magistrate, has requested a gentry named Zheng, Lan to open up a waterway in order to draw water from the pond to irrigate the fields, consequently making rice and fish the staple of Singlong Village ever since; and this, in turn, attracted shrines and temples to congregate here.  Walking along the west bank of the pond, strolling from north to south, one comes across the Confucius Temple, the Ciming Temple, the Spring and Autumn Pagodas, the Wuli Arbor, and finally arriving at the Dragon Tiger Tower.  Except for the solemn Confucius Temple located further up north, the other hot spots are clustered together in the south:  bridges, pagodas and towers buzzing with vibrant colors.  These hot spots make Lianchihtan a bustling destination in Zuoying, especially for those interested in visiting temples.  Along the east bank of Lianchihtan is a generous avenue hugging the shore, with the old city of Zuoying on the west bank - many delicate stalls teeming with local delicacies can be found here, and it is usually buzzing with people.  The south shore is linked by Shengli Road and Sinjhuangzih Road, creating a closed loop around the pond.  Lianchihtan is always shrouded in mist at dawn and dusk, barely revealing its picturesque scenery, teasing tourists with an unspeakable mystique.  Especially during the summer time, nourished by refreshing rain, with the waterline about to spill over the shore, and ripples glistening on the surface; accompanied by willows swaying lazily along the shore line, a cool breeze skimming duckweeds and lotuses across the surface, it is said that Lianchihtan rivals the beauty of Sihu in mainland China.
