Balcom canyon road climbs southward out of the Santa Clara river valley over the Santa Susana Mountains and tops out at 1100 feet a mile to the east of this location before descending into Moorpark. Just below the ridge on the south slope are several satellite dishes. Notice that most of the dishes are pointed to the west at a shallow inclination almost parallel to the ground and since they are below the ridge top so they can’t receive any signals from the north. They could be aimed at a geosynchronous satellite over the equator in Asia which stays just over the horizon from here. They could also be for tracking missile tests launched from Vandenberg AFB.
