This convent was destined to the religious of the Immaculate Conception, and was built from 1719 on the initiative of D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles. Only the Church and the cloister remain from the original convent. In 1652 there was a female gathering of the Third Order of S. Francisco dedicated to Our Lady of Penha de França, a project by the architect Teodoro de Frias and built by the master Adrião João. The tiles in the chancel depict scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary and were created by Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes. The rest portray scenes from the life of S. Francisco.
