Bucaco, Palace and garden
Portugal

The nationalist commemorations of the 3rd centenary of the death of Camões in 1880 and later the commemoration of the discovery of the Maritime Way to India (1498-1898) boosted the birth of the Neomanueline style. Inspired by the historical past and by the Manueline style artistic icons, based on the exponential works Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and Torre de Belém, this revivalism arises in the late-end of the century. The Italian set designer Luigi Manini was indebted for the most representative examples of this style. The Palace-hotel do Buçaco, 1888 and the Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, 1905 are both exemplary works of the style and the author, arrived in Portugal already in 1878.
