Candelaria Cemetery
Nevada

In 1864, Mexican prospectors found silver in the area & many years later around 1879 the area hit a boom & the town of Candelaria, Nevada was founded mostly by European immigrants.  Another nearby town that was established was Metallic City, now defunct.  Most mining activity took place in the late 1800s & it wasn't until around 1941 that Candelaria became a ghost town.  A number of significant mines remain as well as a few large open-pit mining operations that took place in the late 1980s & 1990s, one such one is seen in the backdrop.  The Candelaria Cemetery remains, while a few headstones remain, most of them are missing w/ the graves simply large mounds of rocks & pebbles.  The location was also famous for the Great Nevada Meteor which exploded over the town on February 1, 1894.
