Carefree Botanical Gardens, Carefree, Arizona USA
Arizona
The Carefree Botanical Garden is a showcase of desert plants located in the town of Carefree, just north of Scottsdale, Arizona. The garden has some extremely rare forms of crested cactus and is located right in the center of the downtown section of Carefree. Carefree was established in 1959 by town founders K.T. Palmer and Tom Darlington, incorporated in 1984 and celebrated its 25th anniversary of incorporation in 2009. The town has a population of around 4,000 people. The gardens include the famous Carefree Sundial, built in 1959, it is 62 feet long and points to the North Star. The surrounding 4-acre gardens were completely redone in 2011 and contain hundreds of plants. Carefree is a resort community and suburb in the Phoenix, Arizona Metropolitan Area. The area is known for the beauty of the surrounding Arizona/Sonora Desert.
