Castle Stalker , Appin , Scotland , UK
Scotland

Castle Stalker (Gaelic , Stalcaire meaning Hunter or Falconer) was originally thought to have been built around 1320 by the MacDougalls who were then the Lords of Lorn .

The castle has changed hands several times through the years , including the Stewarts , the Maclarens and the Campbells . The house has since returned to ownership by the Stewarts who restored the castle after the roof was removed to avoid roof tax .

The castle is now used as a visitor attraction but only for a very few weeks of the year .
