Redesdale is 27 kilometres north of Kyneton on the Campaspe River. The town was named after Captain Robert Rede, the goldfields commissioner in Ballarat at the time of the Eureka rebellion.
The Catholic Church of Saint Lawrence was built from bluestone in 1874.
