Conimbriga, House of Cantaber, aerial view
Portugal

This house is the largest domus in Conimbriga (80x40m) and one of the largest in the entire western Roman world. Apparently it is a typical century residence. III with a large central peristyle prolonged by the Triclinium open over three lakes, one of which is porticoed to facilitate circulation to the rear of the house where the private baths were located; the main sleeping area is arranged around a patio with an impluvium. It is to be assumed that this plant corresponds to a profound remodeling of a century house. I as with the houses in the south sector (extra-walls). In its present state, this domus also presents a set attached to the wall, consisting of a porticoed patio with ornamental tank and two rooms. This work is slightly posterior or contemporary to the wall and represents an extension made possible by the acquisition of the strip of land occupied by the street that served the sector-south outside the walls.
