Die Zeche Wendel-Vuillemin, auch Carreau Wendel genannt, war einmal der größte Bergbaustandort Frankreichs. In der Zeit um 1960 förderten 5000 Bergarbeiter täglich 5000 Tonnen Kohle bis die Kohlenvorräte 1986 erschöpft waren und das Bergwerk geschlossen wurde. Heute steht das Gelände unter Denkmalschutz, ein Museum erinnert an die früheren Zeiten des Bergbaus.
In nördlicher Richtung sieht man den 1952 abgeteuften Schacht Wendel 3 mit dem imposanten Fördergerüst und der 1958 gebauten Kohlenwäsche Wendel 3.
Nach Osten sind die gewaltigen Abraumhalden zu sehen, in südöstlicher Richtung liegt der Schacht Wendel 2 (abgeteuft 1871), dahinter der Schacht Wendel 1 (abgeteuft 1868). Beide Schächte wurden später modernisiert und mit neuen Fördergerüsten ausgestattet.
Auf dem ganzen Gelände sind Maschinen und Werkzeuge ausgestellt, die früher hier zum Einsatz gekommen sind.
