Dover Church Stream - Dover Plains NY
Hudson Valley

Near the Connecticut border, roughly 35 minutes east of Poughkeepsie, is the village of Dove Plains. Driving its Main street, you'll see a pleasant little community, but what you won't see is something rather spectacular - the Stone Church.

About a ten minute hike from Main street is a cleft in a rock that opens up into what feels very much like a sanctuary space. Indeed, legend has it that Sassacus, the Mashantucket Pequot Indian sachem, (like a chief of chiefs), used this as a hiding place to escape capture and execution by the English Army.
