Early Winter on Alta Peak
California

A strong El Nino is predicted for the 2015/2016 winter season in California, hopefully bringing plenty of snow to the biggest reservoir in the state. This climb on Alta Peak was encouraging, as a fair amount of snow has already accumulated even on the south-facing slope. That didn't necessarily make it easy to access the summit, however the sweeping views of the entire Great Western Divide as well as the Kaweahs to the east and Central Valley to the west were well worth the effort.
