Edelweiss Bench at Thomas Mann Platz 1
Grisons

From this place we can appreciate the Jakobshorn mountain. The Thomas Mann Platz was created in 2007/08. It is one of the coldest places on the Schatzalp. In some years the snow stays until the end of May. Delphiniums, rhubarbs, edelweiss and torch lilies thrive here.

The Thomas Mann Weg is a pleasant path named after the German writer Thomas Mann, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, who was inspired by the Schatzalp and Strela mountains, calling them the magic mountain, for his masterpiece, originally titled "Der Zauberberg", published in November 1924, 12 years after visiting Davos.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Thomas Mann visited his wife Katia in a sanatorium in Davos. She was staying at the Waldhotel to cure a lung infection; Mann spent three weeks sitting on the balcony next to her, breathing in the Alpine air. During this time, he went on numerous hikes in the area above the forest sanatorium, an area through which the Thomas Mann Trail passes.

The trail starts at the Waldhotel in Davos, 1,600 m above sea level, and is a 2.8 km hike that culminates at Thomas-Mann-Platz in Schatzalp, 1,880 m above sea level. Along the trail there are several artworks shedding light on Thomas Mann's work and his connection to Davos, connecting the central points of his novel "The Magic Mountain".

Deste local podemos apreciar a montanha Jakobshorn.
