Embalse de Alange
Extremadura

Alange Reservoir is formed by a concrete dam opened in 1992, near the locality of Alang Badajoz, some 20 kmde Mérida. It is situated on the river Matachel, near its mouth on the river Guadiana. Thus belongs to the Guadiana Hydrographic Confederation.

Alange Dam is a gravity dam of 825 hm ³ capacity. While in the past nine years, the average volume of water stored was 470 hm ³ (55.16% of the total). Covering an area of 5144 ha. Its construction was carried out in order to allocate water to irrigation of crops near the valley of the Guadiana.
As a curiosity, note that its construction flooded some houses in the lower part of Alange well as the hamlet of birds, belonging to the same villa. To remedy this problem, took out the resettlement of people affected in a new neighborhood located on the road from La Zarza.
On its banks are allowed licensed fishing of species such as carp, pike or largemouth bass. This last fish habitat is very favorable, because it has a lot of submerged vegetation.
