Fisher Towers, Utah, USA
Utah

Fisher Towers rise above Professor Valley only a few miles of unpaved graded road east of Highway 128.  Drivers coming down from I-70 or driving up from Moab are treated to the spectacular site of the cathedral like spires of dark sandstone.  Five primitive camp sites are available as well as trailhead parking for a short 2.2 mile (4.4 mile round trip) hike around the base of the spires.

The towers are topped by 245 million year old Moenkopi sandstone resting on a base of older 290 million year old Cutler sandstone.  These thick layers of sandstone and gravel represent the erosional remnants of a long gone mountainous region that existed here some 320 million years ago.

The towers are amazing to see in the early morning and evening light.  Nothing beats watching the sky and rocks change colors as the sun drops behind the mesas to the south.
